has been to see the wizard!

along the yellow brick road ...
Last night my friend Lucy & I went to the London Palladium to see the Wizard of Oz.... I bought the tickets for Lucy's birthday last year, as it's her favourite film.

Unbeknown to me last night it was Danielle Hope's debut performance (having won the role through the TV show Over the Rainbow) I didn't follow the Tv series but was very impressed by her performance . The staging of this musical is amazing. The scene changes are truly spectacular ( no painted back drops being pulled on and off the stage!!) including flying witches and the scary monkeys!
It was lovely to see Michael Crawford back in the West End after battling the debilitating illness ME.
This show has been previewing since early Feb with its Press night scheduled on 1st March, so prepared to read lots more on this spectacular staging... another winner for Lloyd Webber.
coveting the very gorgeous red ruby slippers!

This week is all about the Ladies...

Little ladies, Small Ladies and Old ladies!.... celebrating births and birthdays has been my life this week.
Sunday saw me popping over to Kelly's to meet the delightful Sophie, who was just gorgeous. I also got to meet Kelly's mum & aunt Jill who were lovely and all made me feel very welcome. It was lovely to have coffee, cupcakes and a girly chat along with a cuddle from the elegantly dressed Sophie! Kelly is a bit of a shoe girl so during the big yellow stores sale I bagged a few bargains for Sophie... Dior Shoes!!(you can never start too early!) building blocks & teddy.... I hope she likes as much as mummy!
Thursday saw my little Libs turn 8...the little lady is growing up quickly so a birthday tea with family was on the menu .. she had earlier had her school friends over after school... cupcakes baked, along with princess themed presents (Tangled proving to be a big hit!)
Saturday saw me heading to Bas Vegas as its affectionately known!! (Basildon to everyone else) to celebrate a very dear friends 60th Birthday. I met Lynda when i started my first job at 16 and she took me under her wing... she has lived in Spain for the last 10 years so we don't see too much of each other, but I still regard her as one of my special friends. It was lovely to see her & her family.. a lovely evening.
Also shared this week, lunch & lakeside with my oldest friend to celebrate her birthday....

Rainy Days are Baking days!...

I know that no-one needs an excuse to bake, but rainy days are the best days for me. Nothing brightens me more when it's miserable outside to be baking in the kitchen... this week i've baked a bit so today has had me devouring my 2 favourite magazines Delicious Magazine and Sainsbury magazine  loving the rhubarb crumble cake on the front of delicious... this will be converted to cupcakes!. mmmm. Also pulling together my Books to Eat list for 2011.
One of the books on the list is the lovely Lorraine Pascale's Baking made Easy which has recently serialised on bbc and has been one of my favourite cooking programmes ever!
On my stroll Wednesday evening to the Peacock theatre I had a few minutes to spare so I stopped off at Ella's bakehouse in Covent Garden (which of course is Lorraines cupcake shop).. had a delicious Lemon & Raspberry cupcake with a Latte.. cute little quaint cupcake parlour... loved the serving hatch! The book is delightful and the tiramisu mini cakes & cookie brownies are on my baking list!
A must have for any baker...and the perfect brightener for a dull day!

Shoes!

can we have too many?..... quite clearly not, and due to our obsession with them, there's only a musical about them!. Tonight I went to the Sadlers Wells PeacocK Theatre to watch the Song & Dance revue Shoes.
It's completely bonkers but a brilliant bonkers. A whole evening of dance & song paying homage to the Shoe. Richard Thomas wrote and composed the musical and this is what he said he found out whilst researching:
1. The Imelda Marcos Syndrome is alive & kicking across all ages and income brackets
2. Women are errr.... economic with the truth about how much they spend on shoes.
3. Women buy designer shoes to impress other women - men do not factor into this!
4. Shoe designers are beautiful, tender lovely specimens of humanity!
I couldn't agree more!
On arrival we were greeted by a red carpet and as we walking up it the flashbulbs started to pop, behind us was Craig Revel Horwood from Strictly followed shortly by Michael McKells (naughty Nick from Emmerdale). We spoke to both after the show, who both had friends in or producing it. Both lovely.... signed programme and a pic with the  naughty Michael.
Anyone who has a love of shoes should see this show, it makes no sense but is extremely good fun and the dancers are amazing.

Robbie, Rockin' & Rugby..

Sums up my week so far.... Robbie was in the big yellow store Thursday to support the launch of his tailors new shop in store, accompanied by some celeb friends. Also pictured are a couple of the guys that i work with....

Friday saw me catch- up with a friend for a meal & a trip to the theatre. We started off in Kitchen Italia which was great, loved all the oils, basil plant & Parmesan jars on the tables.. Lovely feature for a dinner school eating environment. Then we headed down to the theatre to see Million Dollar Quartet. The 4 guys that play Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins & Jerry Lee Lewis are amazing. For those not familiar with the storey, it centralises around one night in a converted garage recording studio.( Sun Records where they all started from.)The only night that the 4 guys were in the one room together....caught on recording tape my their manager.. Sam Phillips. Rockin' evening, made even better by the fact it cost us £15 for meal & theatre ticket ( last minute deal!!)

Saturday saw me heading to Twickenham to watch England 'v' Italy in the 6 nations. Atmosphere from boarding the train out of Waterloo to inside the stadium was fantastic... Got to Twickenham in time to see the teams arrive, which was great, beautiful day sun shining, blue sky... perfect winter afternoon and Rugby men... what more could a lady ask for?
Lots of entertainment prior to game, including the Royal Commando Marines abseiling the England flags in from the corners of the stadium. Had a fantastic pitch side seat, Row 1 behind the press photographers on the try lines.... especially with all the trys 1st half...
found myself sitting alongside some of the marines during the game... which was nearly as distracting as this man warming up in front of me!

Great day... even better with a stonking win!
hope your week has been lots of fun too!........weekend not over, will share the rest of it on monday.. Tx

Bagged a Bargain!!

I love a bag,( it may have previously been noted how much I love a bag).. So working in the big yellow store can be a little tempting!.. My wish list grows on each visit to the handbag hall, however I am realistic and only purchase in sale time. This year I have managed to bag a few bargains....most of them from under the Mulberry bush!

Recent sale purchases are a new journal & pencil case in lovely black patent and a mulberry mulberry clutch! Retail price for all 3 ~ £576.... T purchased for £126...a saving of £450! Also bagged this d&g clutch ... Was £395... I picked it up for £60.... now I know that may still feel a little overpriced to some, but I'm thrilled with my bargains!... and spent my Christmas money wisely!

Did you bag any bargains in the sale?

February will be filled with....

Fun, Friends, Thighs & Theatre!!!..... after a work filled January, I am determined to work a little less and enjoy a little more in February. Looking at my calendar that's not going to be too difficult and it will involve lots of the mentioned!
I have 4 trips to the theatre booked, birthdays & parties with friends, and the 6 nations rugby all to look forward to which will be lots of fun!!....

One of my theatre trips was to the lovely quaint Duchess Theatre at the back of Covent garden near Aldwych to see the heart wrenching Love Story. A beautiful musical bought to London and produced by Michael Ball. Its very understated, incredibly acted and an emotional joy to watch. Used to lots of razzamatazz in musicals this completely bucks the trend and adopts the "less is more approach". It is accompanied by a chamber orchestra which remains on stage throughout as does the 2 lead characters (other than very quick costume changes). Beautifully acted and not a dry eye in the house at the end... you completely forget that it's not real... only on until end of feb but worth a visit... enjoy ( but remember to take a hankie!)

Peggy's Parlour......

how excited was to I to read a while back that Peggy Porschen was opening her own cupcake & cookie parlour! I hadn't managed to get there before Christmas, but with a little time off today I popped to Belgravia to visit the parlour for a coffee & cupcake. I can say it is the loveliest cupcake eatery that I have been too... and I have frequented a few here & in New York and it is top of the list for me!

The shop is delightful, the goodies & treats instore are very tempting. The two girls in there today were lovely, they couldn't have been more helpful and the cupcake & coffee was delicious. (mary portas would have been impressed!) I've always been a fan of Peggy's... her 1st book inspired me to start making cookies, with my first attempt being a box of baby cookies to celebrate the birth of my godson 6 years ago... and the cupcake and cookie craze began!
My cupcake instore was a Lemon chiffon which was very yummy and tangy!.. i'm not a huge fan of too much icing, but she has got it spot on with taste & texture.... carried home in a box was the following; Black forest, Banoffee and a Chocolate Heaven...mmm can't wait to try those! I also had to purchase a jar of Passionfruit jam and a cute little cake stand & dome.... I am already compiling a list of goodies for my trip back... i'm going back for afternoon tea soon!.... a MUST for any cupcake fan... x
