Spring fair...

well it certainly feels like Spring is upon us... the weather here in Essex has been glorious, perfect for Country Living's spring fair...Wednesday evening I was luck enough to have a complimentary ticket for the gala evening (courtesy of my friend Jane ) so I popped over to the Design Centre in Islington for a peruse.
Its a couple of years since I have been, and was surprised how much it had changed, its far more commercial and lots of clothes. It was still lovely to wander round and caught up for a chat with Jane, I did keep bumping into Dame Judi Dench whilst wandering, who was delightful.
Here are a few of my favourites:

The delightful ribbon stand from the gift wrapping guru Jane Means.
The beautiful Cupcake bath bombs & bath creme... looked delightful and smelt amazing from Miss Patisserie

The Vintage stall from Kitty, which was lovely, the Easter breakfast table was a treat.
I picked up a few bits for Easter, which I shall share with you all soon... Enjoy the sunshine Tx

Mad about Macarons...

Nothing for me will eclipse the Cupcake, but I must confess that Macarons are an indulgent treat for me. With Pierre Herme on my doorstep, the macaron master, this indulgence can be satisfied often. Last Tuesday was Macaron day, and in all Pierre's stores a donation was made to children's autism charity for every macaron purchased... it was rude not to support the charity so a box of treats was purchased featuring; Pistachio & raspberry compote, Chocolate & Earl grey, Sea Salted Caramel, Milk Chocolate & Passion fruit.... yum yum... they disappeared before I could take a picture!
recent Macaron treats are the fabulous notecards & bookmarks along with a couple of macaron books, all bargain pick-ups from TKmaxx & Homesense...
If this has wetted your appetite for the macaron, and you want to smell like one then how about the 3 new limited edition fragrances from DKNY!... I'm loving them just for the design & colour alone!...DKNY have launched 2 spring fragrances Pink Macaron, Yellow meringue & Tart key lime...
the advert is delightful and ... New York & Cupcakes what more could i ask for!

The second love this week is this delicious powder blue clutch from Prada, the cream laptop work bag is equally as scrumptious!
...mmmm but both very yummy .... And for me, surprisingly not girly pink!
As you can imagine one is a little more affordable than the other!

Spring has sprung...

Well it feels like it has this weekend in sunny Essex!... Beautiful blue sky's and daffodils swaying in the hedgerows, hopefully we have said goodbye to the winter for a while.
Inspired by the sunshine, this weekend I've mapped out my plan for a big spring clean/ life launder which will take sometime! I will be starting with my kitchen, which needs a lick of paint & a general overhaul. With a few days off coming soon I should be able to achieve this! Whilst shopping in sainsburys Saturday I fell in love with these pink & cream plates, perfect for my new kitchen scheme!...and a 1/3 off!! Even better
.....So, after a Saturday of cleaning, food shopping & washing I sat down to catchup on some of my favourite food magazines whilst watching the rugby!

I'm loving this months Delicious magazine, the cover is just scummy... I love hot cross buns... Favourite thing for Easter x
Last months sainsburys mag has the most scrumptious rhubarb cupcakes on the front, which I will definitely be baking as I'm a huge rhubarb fan ... Yum yum..

Bake yourself Happy....

As previously blogged, baking has been my salvation in times of stress and depression and it seems I'm not alone.... Mary, Jamie and Marian are all telling us to bake ourselves happy!
Last week I picked up the gorgeous Saved by Cake from the author Marian Keyes, written in her distinctive witty style. The book is kitsch with lots of pink!...and oodles of scrummy recipes. I really liked the book, the recipes are varied and I think that it's a great book for both the seasoned and occasional baker, especially as it doesn't all look perfect!

The grandmother of baking, the lovely Mary Berry has recently talked about how baking helped her cope after the death of her son....
Mary's baking therapy..
and finally... Jamie's magazine this month is just gorgeous...filled with lovely baking recipes. The brownies just look lush and I can't wait to make the "cheesecake" toastie... Great reads for this month .x

East London Girl...

Over the last few weeks I've been hooked on two tv shows, Call the Midwife and Whitechapel. Both are set in the East End of London but 50 years apart.
Call the Midwife is the fabulous adaption of the trilogy of books written by Jennifer Worth. With a stella cast, including the fabulous Miranda Hart playing Chummie, it has been a pure joy to watch. Perfect Sunday night TV.

The second has been the gripping, and scary Whitechapel, shot in and around East & South London ( Konditor & Cook masquerading as the scary sweet shop in episodes 3 & 4 !) starring the beautiful and gorgeous Rupert Penry Jones (swoon) and his sidekick Phil Daniels, this series has had me hiding behind a cushion on many occasion, but I have loved it!!!

Anything with RPJ in it has my vote!
I'm not the only one to have a small crush on the gorgeous Rupert... This clip on You Tube has made me laugh lots this week... Gorgeous Rupert with Holly on "This Morning" I'd be as giddy as her!......

Rupert on This Morning with Holly!

Enjoy... Off to watch last episode of Whitechapel.....

Recent Reads.....

Here are a few of my reads in February!.... a number of you ask how I can read so much. Reading forms part of my daily commute which is at least an hour each way (without delays!) so the thought of starting off each morning without a book to read fills me with complete panic!... also I suffer with dreadful insomnia so the Ipad is a welcome friend at 3am...
I've picked out 3 of my favourite reads to review from Feb...
Horse Play ~Jo Carneige - this is Jo's 5th book in her Churchminster series and I wasn't disappointed. It felt like I had met up with old friends that I hadn't seen for a while ~ pure delight from start to finish. Even if you haven't read any of the previous 4 you can pick this up and thoroughly enjoy it.. Jilly Cooper of today... Heat magazine described it as the the SATC! (Sex & the Countryside) lots of characters, laugh out loud moments and a great story... you will want to move to Churchminster! Featuring new character Kizzy who aspires to be a jump jockey...even if you aren't a fan of horse racing do not let the title put you off ..its a  romp of a read from start to finish.
Katie FForde ~ Summer of Love - I've read every Katie FForde book, perfect comfort read to curl upto with, on a cold day with a mug of coffee and a bar of chocolate.. it gives you that warm glow. Sian and her small son Rory move to a picture postcard cottage in the country.... she is befriended by Fiona an older lady who's son is away travelling... I loved Fiona she made me laugh out loud, from her internet dating disasters to her needing to buy new underwear before a date was a delight...Fiona's son returns from travelling and it appears that Sian and Gus have met before!.... a delightful easy read ... perfect for a rainy day.
Christmas at Tiffany's ~ Karen Swan - this has been languishing in my to read pile since before Christmas, and after reading I can't believe that I left it so long!...DO NOT be put off by the title, this book is so much more than a Christmas read, in fact I think the title is only thing wrong with this book as it is not a Christmas or seasonal book... Cassie has been friends with Kelly, Suzy & Anouk who respectively live in New York, London & Paris, with Cassie living in the highlands of Scotland. On the day that she is celebrating her 10th wedding anniversary her life falls apart, the girls gang together and whisk Carrie away to spend 4 months with each of them in their respective citys'.. Henry is Suzy's younger brother and an avid traveller sends Carrie a list of 5 things to see/do in the city that she is residing...having never strayed far from Scotland this starts a year of an adventure for Carrie.... I loved Henry's lists and want to live them in each of the city's!... a trip to Paris & New York are now back on my wish list for this year... Loved this book..
This month has also seen me reading & submitting my reviews for the judging of the Melissa Nathan book awards ... watch this space for more details.
