Chick Flicks in NY City....

I'm a chick flick girl, not ashamed to admit it!... Love a good chick flick, usually the ones that the critics loath!....
So as my trip to New York approaches it got me thinking of the fab flicks that feature this fabulous city. I stumbled across this great website which inspired me to blog my favs.... Check out  On the set of New York Film Locations
I'm starting with an icon; The seven year itch...

Who can forget that iconic scene with Marilyn in the White dress over the subway grate? This was filmed in Lexington ave. I defy anyone to walk down an avenue and not think of that white dress when the subway thunders underneath and the wind rushes up through the grate! Also featured in the film is Penn station often overshadowed by Grand Central station but is the main train junction from across America. Marilyns apartment can be found   164 East 61st Street and Lexington Avenue, Manhattan.
From one dress to 27...

Katherine Hiegel flitted between the city in her  27 dresses & Brooklyn. The beautiful boathouse also features in this film as the wedding venue of choice. The boathouse in Central Park has been the backdrop to many movie TV greats... Big &Carrie ending up in the lake, it's also where Sally met her friends for brunch in When Harry met Sally. Another wedding venue is situated on The New York Palace Hotel, 455 Madison Avenue opposite St Patricks Cathedral.

Washington arch in Greenwich Village is seen early in When Harry Met Sally, the most memorable scene is the "fake" scene in the deli. Filmed at Katz deli on 205 E. Houston Street, on the south-west corner of Houston and Ludlow Streets.
This deli is also seen in Enchanted.

Other great scenes in Enchanted are when Giselle emerges through the manhole cover in Times Square, and the multiple scenes in Central park which are just stunning. Also featured is the Time Warner building which is just by Central Park at Columbus circle... Opposite is the iconic symbol of the Daily Planet!
Crossing over into the Park, you will stumble upon Belvedere Castle which is a fairytale in itself in the middle of woodland overlooking a lake.. this where Julia Roberts in Stepmom shoots a photo shoot...
also screened is the lovely L'Absinthe Restaurant, 227 East 67th Street and 2nd Avenue where Ed Harris & Susan Sarandon dine... this film makes me weep every time i watch it, but think it has one of the most romantic proposals in a chick flick.....
Talking of proposals, how could I not mention Tiffany's... a backdrop for many classics, little black dresses and diamonds to die for!.... but who could resist the gorgeous Patrick Dempsey taking over the shop for his proposal to Reece Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama...
a must for any NY film fan.... found on 5th avenue. (where else!) moving up 5th Ave back towards the Park you will find the Metropolitan Museum of Art (fondly known as the Met)... where Jennifer Lopez flees from Ralph Fiennes in Maid in Manhatten... the hotel that Marisa works at in the film is the beautiful and majestic Waldorf Astoria. Several scenes are also filmed within Central Park for this movie..
from one maid to another.... Made of Honour ( apologies for 3 Patrick Dempsey films featured!... Patrick Dempsey & New York.. my idea of heaven!)... Times Square, Central park & Saks feature in this film...
No Reservations moves south of the island to the Village & Brooklyn... Bleeker street is used for the restaurant scenes....and The Little Owl restaurant used as the bistro in the film... the apartment building above was used for the exterior apartment shots for Friends!

Friendship features in both Serendipity and One Fine day..... both films featuring a trip to the luscious hot chocolate venue Serendipity.... (a fun eatery, world famous for its frozen hot chocolate desert!)
Serendipity is one of my Christmas movies of choice, featuring the Plaza, Wollman Ice Rink, & Bloomingdales....As well as Serendipity's One Fine day features another iconic eatery in New York, 21... its worth a walk past just to see the jockeys, if you get a chance to go in, the embellished ceilings are fabulous... also seen in One Fine Day is the great Circle Line boat cruise... Boats also feature in How to Lose a Guy in 10 days......

but before we talk boats, lets talk dresses!.... when Andie emerges from her apartment on 43 East 5th Avenue and 11th Street, how amazing does she look in that yellow dress?... another night out sees her & Ben take in a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden ( 7th ave & 33rd st near Penn station)
A romantic day out sees them take the Staten Island Ferry across the Hudson past the Statue of Liberty.... this iconic Orange Ferry started my love affair back in the 80's when I watched Melanie Griffiths commute from Staten Island to Manhattan in Working Girl!... big hair & shoulder pads aside this film epitomises the 80's!

Another icon from the 80's is Cocktail..... not cutting it in Wall Street, Brian finds work in Baker Street Pub, 1152 1st Avenue and East 63rd Street and inspired many mixologists today!
And finally....... how could I not include the most iconic skyscraper and two of the most romantic films....
The beautiful Empire State Building 350 5th Avenue and West 34th Street... which is the mistress in both An Affair to Remember and Sleepless in Seattle....the crowds may be larger now, but still one of the most frequent meeting places in NY.... also seen in Sleepless is the Plaza Hotel, Tiffany's and The Rainbow Rooms at the Top of the Rock...
I hope that you enjoyed by Chick Flicks in the City..... ( all highlighted films will link you to more detailed information )....
