Jam packed jubilee....part1

My life sometimes resembles that feeling that you have when waiting at a bus stop, wait ages for something to come along and then lots of things come altogether,just like buses!. The jubilee weekend was a little like that for me. In the space of 4 days I hosted a retirement party, had a wedding cake for a friend comprising of 180 cupcakes to make & deliver, spent a day out in London and assisted with a Jubilee afternoon tea party!



On the Friday before the jubilee, one of my team retired after 28 years, so a retirement afternoon tea was required, along with a cake made by myself. During the week he also had 3 leaving do's!....Cake & presents were transported into London on the morning that the household cavalry were practising the jubilee parade! Which was fantastic to see, but a little frustrating stuck in traffic at 6am.Send off for Mr C was great fun with a few tears shed at the end, he has been one of the nicest people that I have worked with and will be truly missed...
Retirement party complete my next task was the wedding cake. This compromised of a two tier cake for the top, chocolate & fruit, with 5 different flavoured cupcakes, chocolate, vanilla, carrot, toffee & coffee, all to compliment the cappuccino colouring of the wedding.
I decamped to my friends house after the baking was complete for a mammoth ice and mini meltdown, in between this we spent a fun filled afternoon in London and an evening with Russell!.Sunday morning dawned early for completion of cupcakes and along with carrot cake pops for the kids, all was delivered safely, and bride happy.



Sunday evening was spent recuperating on the sofa, preparing ourselves for a Jubilee garden party on the Monday.... Part 2 to follow!

Jubilee Proms...

After our tea, and for our final treat of the day, we headed to the Royal Albert Hall for an evening of jubilation for the Queens jubilee concert hosted by Russell Watson.
The evening exceeded my expectations as we were seated in a box and it was just like last night of the Proms.


Conducted by the charismatic Jae Alexander, played by the Royal Philamonic
Orchestra, and supported by the London choral society, Welsh male choir and Military wives, Russell was the perfect host.
With classics like Jerusalem, Amazing grace, Zadok the priest, Greensleeves, We'll meet again, the horn pipe, Land of hope & glory and Rule Britannia it was a rousing evening and made us both proud to be British.


A perfect end to a fabulous day in London...best of british...
I did take some video with my new camera, but need some lessons on posting to You tube!.. Once I have mastered this I will upload some links..

Jubilee Tea....

After our round of golf on the roof, we descended down to street level and headed over to Fortnum & Masons for afternoon jubilee tea...
We walked the back streets taking in the sights and displays of jubilee windows, via Claridges and Bond street... Loved the champagne butlers in bowlers in Jimmy Choo and the silver leaf Macaron's in Lauduree...and the Keep it clean for the Queen signage from Pret!...


Fortnums was festooned with bunting & regalier inside and out, ready for the big street party the following day, which was attended by Charles & Camilla.
Situated on the 4th floor the Tea salon is light and airy and is styled in the F&M turquoise. The tables are well spaced so that you don't feel like you are sitting on top of each other.
The tea was not without mishap!... C managed to decorate the tablecloth, and loose all her tea leaves forgetting to use the strainer!.. She got me so flummoxed I managed to loose the sugar bowl lid inside the sugar bowl!... I'm never a clutz, but I was on this afternoon!!!...



Tea was lovely, scones & raspberry jam were delicious, however the service left much to be desired, not the best that I have had.
However service aside, we had much fun and laughed lots..

Up on the Roof...

Last Saturday my friend C & I spent a jubilee filled day in London, the day started at Selfridges where we spent an hour on the roof playing crazy golf!
The legendary Bompass & Parr have collaborated with Selfridges again to install a cake themed 9 hole crazy golf course on the roof alongside an eatery from Daylesford.
The course is eccentric, fun, and quaint essentially British, with holes featuring Big Ben, Gherkin, jelly styled St Paul's cathedral, Tower Bridge complete with the rising road & river!, St Brides church, Nelsons column, and the big yellow store itself Selfidges...
Stepping into the personalised lift which transports you to the roof, you are led into a corridor of bunting and golf ball & strawberry festooned walls the fun begins...


We had lots of fun, met some pearly kings & queens on our travels and laughed lots... and decided that golf probably isn't a sport that we were ever going to win any awards in!....


After a leisurely drink, and a chance to take in the view across the London landscape we headed back down to street level for our next adventure in London...

Best of British...

Unless you have been hiding under a very big rock for the past month and the Queens Jubilee has passed you by,then you wouldn't have failed to notice that the country has gone a little British!...
I for one have loved seeing all the bunting and flags everywhere, because of such an occasion and not because of some political affiliation of for the football!.. As you can imagine London has rolled out the bunting, flags and regalier to its full splendour, and the big yellow shop has got behind everything Britsh!... From its saucy seaside'esque postcard windows, to it's bunting filled atrium and it's Big Britsh Bang shop... Here are just a few pictures from the Big Yellow store, which has gone red,white & blue for the occasion.
