My SW journey in 2016....

As previously shared with you my Slimming World journey has been a significant part of my lifestyle changes within 2016, and what a journey it has been. I started the year having lost 2 stone on the plan and finished the year with a further 3 stone loss. This brings my total with Slimming world to 5 stone in 16 months and 6 stone since I made the decision to become a better me.  I am now working towards my Target loss with SW of 6 stone and hope to achieve this before I go on holiday in May.
Lots of people ask me how I’ve done it and is it easy; the honest answer is no ‘diet’ is easy, it’s about willpower, planning, motivation and support. I couldn’t have done this without those, but the biggest thing is that you have to do this for yourself and no-one else, otherwise the will is not there.  What I did set out to achieve when I started was that this became part of my life and not consumed it – it wasn’t a race and I am happy that I have taken the loss slow and steady.

This lifestyle change has overhauled me completely and allowed me to take on new challenges in work and life that I never expected to do 18 months ago. I’ve found a whole new network of friends through social media and group that are also on this journey, some of whom have been invaluable in my achievements. I am now probably the fittest that I have been since leaving school and actively exercise at least 2 or 3 times a week and have fallen in love with walking. ( The running is still up there for me in line with Chinese water torture!) and Zumba is my chosen high impact activity weekly.
I am now 4 / 5 sizes smaller than when I started (dependant on brand) and have completely overhauled my wardrobe, it has given me the confidence to change jobs, socialise and date! (hence the slowdown & lack of blogging!)
Along the way I have started to ‘inspire’ others which I’m struggling to get my head round but hope that I can help in any small way once someone makes the decision to change their lifestyle and lose weight. One of my closest friends wrote this on her instagram feed this week. 😊
❤ Things that have helped for me:
Plan your weeks meals before food shopping.
Set yourself monthly / 3 monthly goals – this makes the weight loss more manageable
REWARD your goals & weekly losses. (something I never did to begin but was taught this my someone who lost 7.5stone)
1lb may not seem much but over a year this = 3.5 stone
Do something lovely for every 1/2stone loss.
❤   Find an exercise that is right for you.
Walking – I use audible books and would find myself going around the block one more time to finish a chapter.
Commuting – get off one stop early and walk (tube / bus)
Escalators – Walk never stand – this is a really easy way to see how far you have come – you will soon be able to climb without stopping / out of breath.
    Take Photographs –
    For Yourself:  however much
you hate the way you look
they are a good tool to remind you how far you have come and help you see the loss
(something that I still struggle with)

Food: - photograph what you eat – if you have a good week look back on what you ate / not good then look at what you didn’t photograph and why!
Dont beat yourself up if you have an off day.

So here we are in 2017 and I am a stone away from Target , its time for me to set some new goals as all those that I set in 2016 I’ve achieved …… so here they are:
Target – get to Target by May and then find a weight that I am happy with.
    • Wear a  pair of size 10 jeans
    •   Complete a 10k race
    • Continue to challenge myself with walking 10,000 steps
    • Buy a Bikini – I have never worn / bought a Bikini and would like to wear one at least once before I am 50!

Thank-you to everyone who has commented and ❤ on my Sw posts and Instagram feed it really has helped my journey along the way. Here's to the final last push of which I will be updating you along the way.

10,000 steps a day in September

So we're halfway through September and therefore halfway through my Walking all over Cancer challenge with my 10,000 steps a day in September  for Cancer Research.
Progress to date looks a bit like this:

    157.8K walked (98 miles)
    219,912 steps walked

I have tried to vary my activity daily and capture moments during my walks. I have been blessed with the weather and whether I am pounding the streets of London or walking / running round my local park I am embracing this challenge whole heartily.
From the beautiful sunrises in the city, to my favourite coffee stops along my commute I am sharing glimpses of my walking life and loving it.
As you can see I have been blessed with beautiful weather and have explored some gorgeous parts of London. I have had amazing support from my friends and family and have received lots of encouragement and half way through this adventure I have achieved 62% of my donation target.
I dont know anyone who's life hasn't been affected in some way by Cancer and by taking on this challenge I hope that the small steps I am taking in September will lead to giant strides in the eventual cure of this cruel disease. I am sharing my progress throughout the month and updating my Just Giving,  Facebook & Instagram pages daily.

      10,000 steps in September

September see's me take on a small challenge and continue with my healthier living lifestyle.
I have signed up to Cancer Research's 10,000 steps a day in September. I have already shared how I have fallen in love with walking and I am currently averaging this most work days, hopefully with a little more focus I will maintain this over the weekend and raise a little for such a worthy cause.
If I complete the challenge I would have walked a minimum of 150 miles in September which ironically I am looking forward to!

National Cupcake Week day 2....Cupcake Challenge

To celebrate National Cupcake week I have made a card, and completed a challenge over at taylored expressions.... Taylor makes some fab Cupcake stamps.. check them out here.
.... I have been researching the history of the "Cupcake", there are 2 explanations for the name:

Y In the early 19th century, there were two different uses for the name "cup cake" or "cupcake". In previous centuries, before muffin tins were widely available, the cakes were often baked in individual pottery cups, ramekins, or molds and took their name from the cups they were baked in. This is the use of the name that has persisted, and the name of "cupcake" is now given to any small cake that is about the size of a teacup, alternatively the names origin came from the measurement or baking, where everything was measured in cups and not by weight.

      Tea and Crafting.............

is how I spent my evening last night, learning to crochet Granny Squares!. Crochet is one of the few crafts that I didn't learn as a child... my Gramps was great at knitting, tapestry, and rug making, but he never mastered the art of crochet!...
I have had a hankering for some time to learn the basics, if only to make a square blanket for my old age! and I have coveted other bloggers crochet from afar... in particular Debbies blanket.
A couple of weeks I stumbled upon this site whilst eating my lunch at my desk.... Tea and Crafting
I contacted Jane and booked myself onto the Granny Squares. The venue is in Portland Place just down from the Landmark Hotel, which is a short walk from work. On arrival it turned out that it was just me, so I had 2hours of 1:1 tuition which was really great.

The evening started painfully for me, I am a bit of a perfectionist so the fact that I couldn't master chain stitch was a little frustrating, so the thought of completing a square by the end of the evening was a long and distant dream. Jane was lovely, really patient and a great teacher. After trying to crochet chain stitch I had to choose 3 lovely colours from this pile to make my square!... and we started, the first block was daunting, but ended up like this..... then suddenly after adding a second colour it all began to make sense!...
Then a third colour and suddenly i was on a roll!....... the evening drew to a close, and I left clutching some bundles of wall, a crochet hook and something resembling a Granny square!... I am pleased to say that I completed my square on the tube & train on the way home.

Here is my finished (other than darning off the loose ends) square!..... I did chuckle to myself on the train as I felt like one of the grannies knitting the shreddies in the Shreddie advert (this will be my friend Justine & I in a few years as the 'hot' conversation is daily whenever we are on the train together!!)
This was a great evening, I learnt a new craft and jane was lovely... a definite hit for anyone wanting to learn the basics... i've already tried to book on the crochet flower evening, but its full!...... Jane's posting some October dates soon...

      sweet sunday

This week over on Stamps & Smiles see's a sketch challenge here. This inspired me to get the cute sweetie stamp out from Stampinbella. I've kept the colour scheme quite simple, but I think quite effective. I'm getting back into crafting, although I still haven't managed to scrapbook anything yet. I'm sure it will come back eventually. This week has very much been up & down for me but I suppose I should expect that.
My tube read this week has been the fantastic Changing Grooms. An absolute romp of a debut novel by Sasha Wagstaff. If you like Fiona Walker /Veronica Henry then you will love this.... a fab holiday read.
hope everyone has had a good weekend. I caught up with some friends today that I haven't seen for a while, it was lovely to see everyone and I'm slowly integrating myself back out into the social world!...hugs Tx

      forever friends sketch challenge

it's monday again...so another challenge for you with forever friends......this week see's a sketch challenge designed by Nikki, I have rotated the sketch and made this.... can you tell i'm a shoe fan!...
as you can tell by my lack of blogging, life has been a little hectic. In brief:
Y Gramps had a nasty fall last week, whilst putting the rubbish out, which resulted in a trip to the hospital and two heavily bandaged arms.he's on the mend now thankfully, but is a constant worry.
Y I took my mum to the O2 to see Ildivo with some friends, they were amazing live and my mum had a fabulous time which was great.
Y My friends husband reached the ripe old age of 60 so 40 of us surprised him on a meal out at a Thai restaurant, which was very yummy.
so as you can see i've had to fit in work inbetween that so not a lot to report.... last weeks train read was One Thing Led to Another by Katy Regan, which was an absolute romp and highly recommended...

as you all know i'm a huge fan of bellas!...so was very excited to see a new challenge over at stampingbella...bellarific friday which gets posted on monday & closed on friday!....this weeks challenge is this:

i need to say that these colours are very out of my comfort zone, but i've risen to the challenge it's my friends birthday this week so i've made this card: kept the design very simple as the colours are quite striking............ as bella is accompanied by a cupcake i think the gin & tonic cupcakes will be being made.. Bellas work collection!

This week over on Cupcake Craft Challenge was the challenge to alter something... i like a bit of altering! ... what started with me altering an old mint tin to store my ipod in resulted in a little collection of necessities for my journey to work! helped along with the fabulous Bella collection and Be Merry papers from Minds Eye. I loved these papers at christmas and have used them here....
So my work collection consists of :~
      Y Coffee cup
      Y Ipod holder
      Y Notebook
      Y Bookmark
Talking of journey to work, this weeks book to eat has been Second Chance by Jane Green. I read misgiving reviews about this book, but was hooked from the first page, ...anyone who has searched friends reunited (or other sites) looking for the people that you shared your youth with will enjoy this book, 4 friends reunited by tragedy sharing the 20 years since school....this book is so much more then chick lit...i loved it.

I am so lucky still to have my school friends as a major feature in my life, and would be lost without them, they are so much more to me than friends they are truly the family that i chose myself! love & hugs Tx

Y My friends husband reached the ripe old age of 60 so 40 of us surprised him on a meal out at a Thai restaurant, which was very yummy.
so as you can see i've had to fit in work inbetween that so not a lot to report.... last weeks train read was One Thing Led to Another by Katy Regan, which was an absolute romp and highly recommended...

i need to say that these colours are very out of my comfort zone, but i've risen to the challenge it's my friends birthday this week so i've made this card: kept the design very simple as the colours are quite striking............ as bella is accompanied by a cupcake i think the gin & tonic cupcakes will be being made.. ( she is a bit of a g&t girl!!) ... off now to finish watching mad men... oh to live in new york in the 50's/60's how glamorous!....hugs Tx
